Watercolour is a method of
painting. A watercolour is the painting medium or the resulting artwork. The paints are made of pigments suspended in water. The traditional and most common surface for watercolour
paintings is paper; other surfaces include papyrus, bark papers, plastics,
vellum or leather, fabric, wood, glass and canvas.
Watercolour painting is a kind of art
that generates artistic representations, normally on special watercolour paper.
The paints are made up of pigments which are water-soluble. Other forms of painting
are oil soluble paints or dry pigment in sticks like pastels. Then there are
watercolour pencils and wax crayons which I'm sure are familiar to all of us as
most of us has used them as children in painting activities at school.
Watercolour paints usually comes in the
form of a paste in tubes or in what are referred to as pans which are solid
individual square blocks of paint.
If you are serious in exploring watercolour
painting for yourself, ensure you buy the best quality of watercolour paints
available as cheaper Chinese versions are aimed at children and will not produce
the desired effect and could just leave you disheartened.
Do have a go and don't be disappointed
if your first effort isn't a master piece as that will come the more you
